The Royal Temple of Mengwi is
one of the most important temples
in Bali. Built
in 1634 by the
King of Mengwi dynasty, an impressive complex stands
on an island in the river, the inner temple surrounded
by a moat. The Balinese
name Pura Taman
Ayun literally means 'Garden
Temple in the Water'.
Located in the center of Mengwi, Mengwi was once a royal garden then turned into a tourist park. Every six months to be exact every "Tuesday of Kliwon Medangsia" (based on the calculation of the Saka) Mengwi whole community celebrate for several days worshiping God with all its manifestations.
